So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is removing mirrors from the cage β can cause hormonal or aggressive behavior. A lot of people also recommend giving warm food (like a warmed mash) on cold Toronto mornings. My avian vet in the Danforth also suggested checking for being moved to a new cage or new room which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck β feel free to DM me if you have questions!
Anyone near downtown Toronto should check out the bird section at an avian specialty store β surprisingly good for the area.
I've had birds for 15 years and I've seen this many times. In my experience it usually comes down to molting β they get uncomfortable and cranky.
YES! This is exactly what I needed to read today. My cockatiel and I have been going through the same thing!
I got mine from Global Pet Foods in Aurora. Great selection and the staff actually knows about birds.
Absolutely love hearing success stories! This gives me so much hope for me and Echo. Thank you for sharing!
Totally agree with this! My cockatiel is exactly the same way.
I know how stressful this can be. Just know you're not alone and most of us have been through something similar.
What does their diet look like? Sometimes these things are diet-related.
Oh man, this brings back memories. When we were dealing with this with Rio, I thought we'd never get through it. Now it's just a funny memory. It gets better, I promise.
This is peak caique behavior honestly. They wake up and choose chaos every single day and we love them for it.
I just snorted coffee out of my nose reading this. My blue and gold macaw is looking at me like I've lost it.
Welcome! I remember being a new bird owner and this kind of community helped SO much. Excited to have you!
Oh my bird did this for about about 10 days and I tried everything. Honestly, time was the biggest factor. They just grew out of it.
I actually disagree with this. In my experience with my parrotlet, the opposite was true. But I know every bird is different.
Just wanted to come back and say the advice in this thread WORKED. My African Grey finally stopped being afraid of hands after I tried using a shower perch so they can bathe with warm mist.
You're clearly a caring bird owner β the fact you're asking for help shows that. Your bird is lucky to have you.
I actually disagree with this. In my experience with my Eclectus, the opposite was true. But I know every bird is different.
Hey welcome! You'll love this community. Feel free to ask anything, everyone here is super helpful!
When I had to travel, I used Bird Sitting Toronto and they were incredible with my zebra finch. Daily updates with photos and everything.
