Finding the Right Avian Vet

Not all vets see birds. Many general-practice vets have limited experience with avian patients. Always call ahead and ask specifically about the vetโ€™s avian training and experience.

Questions to ask when booking:

  • Does the vet have specific training in avian medicine?
  • How many bird patients do they see per week?
  • Can they handle my birdโ€™s species (especially for larger parrots)?
  • Do they offer emergency or after-hours avian care?
