Am I the only one who thinks bird toys are way overpriced?
Just spent $45 on a toy my lineolated parakeet destroyed in 20 minutes. TWENTY MINUTES. I love Skittles but I can't keep this up. At what point do we admit the bird toy industry is a racket? DIY or bust from now on.
Reading this hit home. My parrotlet went through the same phase around the same age. What helped us was leaving the radio or TV on when I'm out — background noise helps. Also just accepting that birds are gonna bird, you know?
Have you tried spending at minimum 2 hours of supervised out-of-cage time daily? That's what solved this issue for us. Game changer honestly.
There's a great bird supply store in Pickering that carries exactly what you need. I go there all the time.
I've done a ton of research on this because my Indian Ringneck had the same issue. Here's what I learned: the most common cause is molting — they get uncomfortable and cranky. What worked for us was spending at minimum 2 hours of supervised out-of-cage time daily. I also started adding more variety in perch textures and sizes and noticed improvement within a week. It's a process but it gets better.
