Welcome! I remember being a new bird owner and this kind of community helped SO much. Excited to have you!
Bird Sitting Toronto has a great blog with articles on this topic actually. Worth checking out!
I went through this exact thing with my parrotlet Sunny! It lasted about a few days and then resolved on its own. Hang in there.
I'd suggest trying stuffing paper towel rolls with treats for foraging. My avian vet recommended it and it made a huge difference.
My avian vet in downtown Toronto recommended a full-spectrum UV lamp for my blue and gold macaw especially during Canadian winters. There are so many options though β Arcadia, Zoo Med, FeatherBrite. Which one do you use and are you happy with it? Is there actually a noticeable difference in your bird's behavior?
I've tried a bunch of brands and Goldenfeast is hands down the best value. My Raja devours it.
I used to think the same thing until my parrotlet proved me wrong. Now I'm firmly in the other camp.
Okay but counterpoint β what about birds that are the complete opposite? My Indian Ringneck breaks every rule lol.
Dealt with this for months. What finally worked was changing the type of water dish and just being really patient. They come around eventually.
This happened to us last winter. I think the shorter days and dry heated air were the cause for my bird.
You're clearly a caring bird owner β the fact you're asking for help shows that. Your bird is lucky to have you.
Birds are basically tiny dinosaurs with attitude. My Lucky has me completely trained at this point π
Hey all! I've kept birds for over 10 years β started with budgies and currently have a sun conure named Lucky. I live in the Beaches and found this forum through the BST website. Seems like a great community with solid advice. Happy to help answer questions and share what I've learned over the years!
