New here! Just got my first parrotlet
Hey everyone! I'm from Oshawa and I just brought home my first bird ever β a lovebird named Buddy. I'm equal parts excited and terrified. Been reading everything I can find online but there's so much conflicting info. Any beginner tips from experienced owners would be amazing! Looking forward to being part of this community.
Welcome! I remember being a new bird owner and this kind of community helped SO much. Excited to have you!

My vet in High Park suggested switching from seed to Harrison's pellets gradually over 2 weeks and I noticed a change within the first week. Highly recommend.
So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is keeping a super consistent daily routine β birds thrive on predictability. A lot of people also recommend giving warm food (like a warmed mash) on cold Toronto mornings. My avian vet in Guelph also suggested checking for not enough quality sleep β they need 10-12 hours uninterrupted which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck β feel free to DM me if you have questions!
Hang in there! It gets better. My blue and gold macaw went through this too.
Revisiting this thread because I have more info now. After talking to my vet, they confirmed exactly what people here said. This community knows their stuff.
You're clearly a caring bird owner β the fact you're asking for help shows that. Your bird is lucky to have you.
