Okay but counterpoint β what about birds that are the complete opposite? My umbrella cockatoo breaks every rule lol.
I'd suggest trying spending at minimum 2 hours of supervised out-of-cage time daily. My avian vet recommended it and it made a huge difference.
Following up on my earlier comment β I tried what you suggested and it actually worked! My Pionus is doing so much better. Thank you!
My Lucky read this post over my shoulder and started nodding. I'm only slightly concerned.
I actually disagree with this. In my experience with my Pionus, the opposite was true. But I know every bird is different.
Couldn't agree more. This has been my experience as well.
Welcome! I remember being a new bird owner and this kind of community helped SO much. Excited to have you!
One thing that really helped was leaving the radio or TV on when I'm out β background noise helps. Give it a try β can't hurt!
Hey everyone! I'm from Etobicoke and I just brought home my first bird ever β a lineolated parakeet named Jade. I'm equal parts excited and terrified. Been reading everything I can find online but there's so much conflicting info. Any beginner tips from experienced owners would be amazing! Looking forward to being part of this community.
Just wanted to give a shoutout to Bird Sitting Toronto. Left my lineolated parakeet with them for 10 days while we visited family and Basil came home happy and healthy. They sent daily photo updates. Honestly the best experience. Highly recommend for anyone in downtown Toronto!
I joined a bird owners meetup group in the GTA β great way to get in-person advice and let the birds socialize. Check Facebook groups!
Welcome!! Looking forward to hearing more about your feathered friend. Don't be shy about asking questions!
How long have you had them? Sometimes it takes a while for birds to settle into a new home.
Is this a new behavior or has it always been like this? Context might help figure it out.
Birds are basically tiny dinosaurs with attitude. My Raja has me completely trained at this point π
My macaw Kiwi here! Been on the forum for a few weeks now and loving it.
Have you reached out to Bird Sitting Toronto? They really know their stuff when it comes to bird care.
I'd love to foster birds in need but I'm not sure how to get started. Are there organizations in the GTA that need foster homes? I have experience with Hahn's macaw and a dedicated bird room in my Pickering home.
My Quaker parrot is too smart for most toys β figures them out in 5 minutes and then gets bored. What are the most challenging puzzle/foraging toys you've found? I need to keep that big brain occupied!
This is super helpful, thanks for putting this together! Saving this thread. We need more posts like this on the forum.
