My Basil went through a phase like this around 18 months. I was terrified but it passed. Birds are weird sometimes lol.
I know Harrison's is the gold standard that everyone recommends but at $40+ a bag and with my caique barely tolerating the taste, I switched to Goldenfeast and my bird is happier AND healthier at their last checkup. Anyone else feel like brand loyalty has overtaken actual nutrition science?
Hmm, I'm on the fence about this one. Part of me agrees but then I think about my experience with Rio and it doesn't quite line up.
Hey welcome! You'll love this community. Feel free to ask anything, everyone here is super helpful!
Is this a new behavior or has it always been like this? Context might help figure it out.
What worked for me was leaving the radio or TV on when I'm out β background noise helps. Took about a week but my lineolated parakeet responded really well to it.
Sitting here with Tango on my shoulder in Markham. It's quiet, the bird is preening, and I'm curious β who else is hanging out with their feathered friend right now? Drop your bird's name, species, and what they're up to!
100% this. Wish I'd known this when I first got my bird.
I work from home so my blue and gold macaw gets tons of attention, but I still feel guilty during meetings. Would getting a second bird be good for Lucky or would it backfire? I've heard horror stories AND success stories. What's YOUR experience?
This is so true. Had the exact same experience with Ruby.
I switched to Harrison's pellets last year and haven't looked back. My Indian Ringneck's feathers have never looked better.
Update: took everyone's advice and things are improving. Captain is slowly coming around. This forum is the best.
My Eclectus absolutely LOVES my partner but hisses and lunges at me, and I'm the one who feeds and cleans! Anyone else deal with this? How did you build a relationship with a one-person bird?
Hi! I'm new here but definitely not new to birds. My canary Luna has been my companion for 7 years and I honestly can't imagine life without them. Just moved to Mississauga recently and looking to connect with other bird owners in the area. Happy to be here!
Dealt with this for months. What finally worked was changing the type of water dish and just being really patient. They come around eventually.
Every morning in our North York apartment: alarm goes off, Charlie starts singing. I open the cage, they fly to my shoulder. I try to make coffee, they try to steal my spoon. I eat breakfast, they eat my breakfast. I attempt to work, they sit on my keyboard. Wouldn't trade it for anything. What's YOUR morning like with your bird?
Noticed a small red bump on my parrotlet's foot. Could this be bumblefoot? I have varied perch sizes but maybe not enough natural wood. What should I do? Is this a vet emergency or can I treat at home?
If you're near Oakville, PetSmart on Kennedy Rd actually has a decent bird section. Better than most locations.
Totally normal, don't stress! Birds go through phases just like any other pet.
My green cheek conure has been sneezing a few times a day for the past week. No discharge, still eating and playing normally. Could it be the dry winter air from heating? Or should I book a vet visit?
