Single bird vs pair — the eternal debate
I work from home so my blue and gold macaw gets tons of attention, but I still feel guilty during meetings. Would getting a second bird be good for Lucky or would it backfire? I've heard horror stories AND success stories. What's YOUR experience?
100% this. Wish I'd known this when I first got my bird.
Birds are basically tiny dinosaurs with attitude. My Basil has me completely trained at this point.
Okay but counterpoint — what about birds that are the complete opposite? My lineolated parakeet breaks every rule lol.
I've done a ton of research on this because my Hahn's macaw had the same issue. Here's what I learned: the most common cause is jealousy of a new person, pet, or even object in the home. What worked for us was using a shower perch so they can bathe with warm mist. I also started switching to a natural cleaning spray like F10 and noticed improvement within a week. It's a process but it gets better.
