lineolated parakeet vs cockatiel — which would you choose?

I've narrowed my search down to either a cockatiel or a Indian Ringneck. I live in Whitby, work from home, and have about 3-4 hours of out-of-cage interaction time daily. Which would you recommend and why?

So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is putting the food bowl higher up — birds feel safer eating at height. A lot of people also recommend giving warm food (like a warmed mash) on cold Toronto mornings. My avian vet in Vaughan also suggested checking for jealousy of a new person, pet, or even object in the home which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Did this start suddenly or was it gradual? When my Amazon parrot did this it turned out to be jealousy of a new person, pet, or even object in the home.

Been thinking about this thread all week. I've tried a few of the suggestions and using a stainless steel cage with proper bar spacing for the species was the game changer for us.

100% this. Wish I'd known this when I first got my bird.

I switched to Goldenfeast last year and haven't looked back. My zebra finch's feathers have never looked better.

What worked for me was spending at minimum 2 hours of supervised out-of-cage time daily. Took about a week but my Eclectus responded really well to it.

What kind of cage setup do you have? Sometimes the environment is a factor.

One thing that really helped was playing calming bird sounds from YouTube during the day. Give it a try — can't hurt!
