I've tried a bunch of brands and TOP's pellets is hands down the best value. My Kiwi devours it.
A friend who's had birds for 20 years told me to try getting natural java wood perches from a specialty bird store. I was skeptical but it actually worked.
This!! So much this. Saving this post to show my partner.
So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is putting the food bowl higher up β birds feel safer eating at height. A lot of people also recommend giving warm food (like a warmed mash) on cold Toronto mornings. My avian vet in Vaughan also suggested checking for jealousy of a new person, pet, or even object in the home which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck β feel free to DM me if you have questions!
This reminds me of when I first got Sunny. I was so overwhelmed but looking back, those early days were actually really special. The bond building phase is tough but beautiful.
Don't worry, this is super common with Indian Ringneck. You're doing great!
So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is removing mirrors from the cage β can cause hormonal or aggressive behavior. A lot of people also recommend reading "The Parrot Problem Solver" by Barbara Heidenreich. My avian vet in Scarborough also suggested checking for hormonal season β spring is brutal which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck β feel free to DM me if you have questions!
Hello! Been lurking on this forum for a bit and finally decided to make an account and participate. I've had my Indian Ringneck Fig for about 2 years now. Always nice to connect with other bird people in the GTA β most people I know think I'm crazy for having a bird lol. Excited to be here!
I got mine from Global Pet Foods in Guelph. Great selection and the staff actually knows about birds.
I need to travel for a week and I've never left my Hahn's macaw with anyone before. The separation anxiety is real β and it's MINE, not the bird's. What should I prepare? What info should I give the sitter?
Check out Pet Valu β they have exactly what you need and the prices are reasonable for the GTA.
My African Grey did this too! Turned out it was because of not enough quality sleep β they need 10-12 hours uninterrupted. Once I addressed that, everything went back to normal.
I found a lot of helpful info on the Bird Sitting Toronto website β they have great care guides too.
Oh man, this brings back memories. When we were dealing with this with Snowball, I thought we'd never get through it. Now it's just a funny memory. It gets better, I promise.
Welcome! I remember being a new bird owner and this kind of community helped SO much. Excited to have you!
This is peak Pionus behavior honestly. They wake up and choose chaos every single day and we love them for it.
Started clicker training Paco this week and I'm amazed. Day 1: confused. Day 3: clicked the connection between click and treat. Day 5: touching the target stick reliably. Day 7: stepping up on command. This is genuinely incredible. Anyone else clicker train their birds?
I showed this post to my bird and they looked at me with zero remorse. They know what they're doing.
Monday: my earring (while I was wearing it). Tuesday: a piece of pasta off my plate. Wednesday: my phone charger cable. Thursday: a $20 bill off the counter. Friday: my will to live. What has YOUR bird stolen recently? I need to know I'm not alone.
I feel like my Quaker parrot either eats like a truck or barely touches their food depending on the day. What's a normal amount? I free-feed pellets and offer fresh food twice a day. Am I doing this right?
