Cage size debate — what's truly 'big enough'?
Minimum cage sizes for Quaker parrot vary wildly depending on who you ask. Some people say flight cages are the only ethical option, others say a smaller cage with lots of out-time is fine. What cage do you use and are you happy with it?
I've done a ton of research on this because my Indian Ringneck had the same issue. Here's what I learned: the most common cause is boredom from lack of enrichment and mental stimulation. What worked for us was keeping a super consistent daily routine — birds thrive on predictability. I also started adding more variety in perch textures and sizes and noticed improvement within a week. It's a process but it gets better.
100% this. Wish I'd known this when I first got my bird.
So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is stuffing paper towel rolls with treats for foraging. A lot of people also recommend reading "The Parrot Problem Solver" by Barbara Heidenreich. My avian vet in Scarborough also suggested checking for the cage being in a high-traffic or drafty location which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck — feel free to DM me if you have questions!
