Following up on my earlier comment β I tried what you suggested and it actually worked! My lovebird is doing so much better. Thank you!
Don't worry, this is super common with green cheek conure. You're doing great!
Need to drive my zebra finch from the Danforth to a vet appointment downtown. They've never been in a car before and I'm nervous. What travel cage do you recommend? Any tips to keep them calm?
This!! So much this. Saving this post to show my partner.
Can we start a support group for this? Because SAME.
Bookmarking this thread! So much great info. This is why I keep coming back to this forum.
I'd suggest trying adding a full-spectrum Arcadia UV light near the cage. My avian vet recommended it and it made a huge difference.
My Rio went through a phase like this around 8 months. I was terrified but it passed. Birds are weird sometimes lol.
If you're near Roncesvalles, PetSmart on Eglinton Ave actually has a decent bird section. Better than most locations.

Completely unexpected β my supposedly male Amazon parrot just laid an egg! I'm freaking out a bit. What do I do with it? Do I leave it or remove it? Will this keep happening?
Anyone near Oshawa should check out the bird section at an avian specialty store β surprisingly good for the area.
Welcome to the forum! Great to have another bird lover from the GTA. Your Hahn's macaw sounds adorable β what's their personality like?
Absolutely love hearing success stories! This gives me so much hope for me and Lucky. Thank you for sharing!
I literally cried. After two to three weeks of patient work, Mochi finally let me pet their head today. I know it sounds small but if you've been through the bonding process with a nervous bird you know how HUGE this is. Never give up, it's so worth it.
I actually disagree with this. In my experience with my lovebird, the opposite was true. But I know every bird is different.
Welcome! I remember being a new bird owner and this kind of community helped SO much. Excited to have you!
Is this a new behavior or has it always been like this? Context might help figure it out.
Just wanted to give a shoutout to Bird Sitting Toronto. Left my Indian Ringneck with them for 10 days while we visited family and Fig came home happy and healthy. They sent daily photo updates. Honestly the best experience. Highly recommend for anyone in Etobicoke!
So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is positive reinforcement with their favorite treat every time they do the right thing. A lot of people also recommend adding more variety in perch textures and sizes. My avian vet in Hamilton also suggested checking for molting β they get uncomfortable and cranky which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck β feel free to DM me if you have questions!
