Lol my Pionus does the exact same thing. I've just accepted that the bird runs the house now. I'm just the food delivery service.
I just snorted coffee out of my nose reading this. My Eclectus is looking at me like I've lost it.
Started target training last week and it snowballed from there. My umbrella cockatoo now waves on command, steps up reliably, and is starting to learn spin. Clicker training is absolutely the way to go. Happy to share my process if anyone's interested!
How old is your bird? That might explain it β my lineolated parakeet went through something similar around 1 year.
There's a great little shop in downtown Toronto that specializes in parrot supplies. Way better selection than the big chains.
I've had birds for 15 years and I've seen this many times. In my experience it usually comes down to not enough quality sleep β they need 10-12 hours uninterrupted.
Totally agree with this! My Eclectus is exactly the same way.
I've narrowed my search down to either a Eclectus or a Pionus. I live in Aurora, work from home, and have about 3-4 hours of out-of-cage interaction time daily. Which would you recommend and why?
One thing that really helped was playing calming bird sounds from YouTube during the day. Give it a try β can't hurt!
Hi! I'm new here but definitely not new to birds. My budgie Oliver has been my companion for 15 years and I honestly can't imagine life without them. Just moved to Leslieville recently and looking to connect with other bird owners in the area. Happy to be here!
This!! So much this. Saving this post to show my partner.
How old is your bird? That might explain it β my Indian Ringneck went through something similar around 4 years.
It took me a while to figure this out with my bird too. Don't be too hard on yourself β you're learning!
Following up on my earlier comment β I tried what you suggested and it actually worked! My lovebird is doing so much better. Thank you!
Don't worry, this is super common with green cheek conure. You're doing great!
Need to drive my zebra finch from the Danforth to a vet appointment downtown. They've never been in a car before and I'm nervous. What travel cage do you recommend? Any tips to keep them calm?

Can we start a support group for this? Because SAME.
Bookmarking this thread! So much great info. This is why I keep coming back to this forum.
I'd suggest trying adding a full-spectrum Arcadia UV light near the cage. My avian vet recommended it and it made a huge difference.
