Long-time bird owner, first time on the forum
Hey all! I've kept birds for over 10 years — started with budgies and currently have a zebra finch named Blu. I live in Guelph and found this forum through the BST website. Seems like a great community with solid advice. Happy to help answer questions and share what I've learned over the years!
Welcome aboard! Always nice to see new bird lovers join. Looking forward to your posts!
Dealt with this for months. What finally worked was changing their perch layout and just being really patient. They come around eventually.
The Toronto Humane Society sometimes has birds available for adoption too. Worth checking if you're in the downtown area.
My advice would be getting a kitchen scale and weighing them weekly to track health. Went through the same thing with my Hahn's macaw last year.
BST in Mississauga took such good care of my bird. Best bird sitting service in the GTA by far.
One thing that really helped was leaving the radio or TV on when I'm out — background noise helps. Give it a try — can't hurt!
I went through this exact thing with my umbrella cockatoo Lucky! It lasted about a few days and then resolved on its own. Hang in there.
This made my day honestly. Senegal parrot owners are the best people. We're all just trying our best for our feathered kids.
I have a similar story. My Senegal parrot used to do the exact same thing. I remember being SO frustrated until one day it just clicked. Patience is truly the key with birds.
