How much should a caique eat daily?
I feel like my umbrella cockatoo either eats like a truck or barely touches their food depending on the day. What's a normal amount? I free-feed pellets and offer fresh food twice a day. Am I doing this right?
How old is your bird? That might explain it β my green cheek conure went through something similar around 4 years.
YES! This is exactly what I needed to read today. My caique and I have been going through the same thing!
I'd suggest trying introducing new foods by eating them in front of the bird β monkey see monkey do. My avian vet recommended it and it made a huge difference.
Second vote for BST. They boarded my Eclectus last summer and I could tell Gizmo was well cared for when I picked them up. Total peace of mind.
I struggled with this too until I started adding a full-spectrum Arcadia UV light near the cage. Now it's like a completely different bird.
What worked for me was removing mirrors from the cage β can cause hormonal or aggressive behavior. Took about a week but my Hahn's macaw responded really well to it.
A friend who's had birds for 20 years told me to try adding a full-spectrum Arcadia UV light near the cage. I was skeptical but it actually worked.
Don't worry, this is super common with Eclectus. You're doing great!
