Spent the weekend building a custom play gym for Pistachio using natural branches from safe trees, some rope, and a few stainless steel hardware pieces. Total cost: about $30. My cockatiel has been on it non-stop since I set it up. Used apple and maple wood branches. Happy to describe the build for anyone interested!
Switched from Harrison's to Harrison's pellets about a month ago. Here's my honest take: my Quaker parrot likes the taste way more (actually eats it willingly vs throwing it on the floor). Consistency of droppings improved. Feather quality seems about the same. Price is comparable. Overall I'd give it a solid 8/10. Anyone else tried this brand?
Totally agree with this! My umbrella cockatoo is exactly the same way.
This reminds me of when I first got Tweety. I was so overwhelmed but looking back, those early days were actually really special. The bond building phase is tough but beautiful.
With all the dust my canary produces (seriously, it's like living in a flour mill), I need an air purifier. Which ones are safe around birds? I know ionizers are dangerous. Any recommendations that work well in a Toronto apartment?
I just snorted coffee out of my nose reading this. My cockatiel is looking at me like I've lost it.
Did this start suddenly or was it gradual? When my zebra finch did this it turned out to be molting β they get uncomfortable and cranky.
I've tried a bunch of brands and Zupreem is hands down the best value. My Basil devours it.
Dealt with this for months. What finally worked was changing the lighting schedule and just being really patient. They come around eventually.
Oh my bird did this for about almost six weeks and I tried everything. Honestly, time was the biggest factor. They just grew out of it.
I feel like my Eclectus either eats like a truck or barely touches their food depending on the day. What's a normal amount? I free-feed pellets and offer fresh food twice a day. Am I doing this right?
I've done a ton of research on this because my parrotlet had the same issue. Here's what I learned: the most common cause is the cage being in a high-traffic or drafty location. What worked for us was playing music during the day β my bird loves calm acoustic guitar. I also started joining an online support group for sun conure owners and noticed improvement within a week. It's a process but it gets better.
Anyone near Scarborough should check out the bird section at Ren's Pets β surprisingly good for the area.
Which avian vet do you go to? I'm looking for a good one near Guelph.
Couldn't agree more. This has been my experience as well.
You're clearly a caring bird owner β the fact you're asking for help shows that. Your bird is lucky to have you.
Update: took everyone's advice and things are improving. Tiki is slowly coming around. This forum is the best.
Anyone near Brampton should check out the bird section at Amazon Canada β surprisingly good for the area.
Welcome!! Looking forward to hearing more about your feathered friend. Don't be shy about asking questions!
