My Fig went through a phase like this around 3 years. I was terrified but it passed. Birds are weird sometimes lol.
Have you tried spending at minimum 2 hours of supervised out-of-cage time daily? That's what solved this issue for us. Game changer honestly.
One thing that really helped was adding foraging opportunities to at least 3 different spots in the cage. Give it a try β can't hurt!
Couldn't agree more. This has been my experience as well.
Welcome to the forum! Great to have another bird lover from the GTA. Your cockatiel sounds adorable β what's their personality like?
One thing that really helped was putting a bird lamp on a 12/12 timer to simulate natural daylight cycles. Give it a try β can't hurt!
Dealt with this for months. What finally worked was changing how I approach the cage and just being really patient. They come around eventually.
I actually disagree with this. In my experience with my Amazon parrot, the opposite was true. But I know every bird is different.

My advice would be clicker training for 10-15 minutes a day. Went through the same thing with my Pionus last year.
Welcome!! Looking forward to hearing more about your feathered friend. Don't be shy about asking questions!
BST in Mississauga took such good care of my bird. Best bird sitting service in the GTA by far.
Can we start a support group for this? Because SAME.

This happened to us last winter. I think the shorter days and dry heated air were the cause for my bird.
YES! This is exactly what I needed to read today. My caique and I have been going through the same thing!

Hi all! I just adopted a cockatiel and I'm already head over heels but also completely overwhelmed. So many questions: what pellets do you recommend? How do I know if they're sick? Is it normal for them to sneeze? How do I get them to trust me? I've been googling non-stop but real owner experiences are worth way more. Thanks in advance for any guidance!
I could have written this post a year ago. Same situation, same frustration. Here's what I wish someone had told me: leaving the radio or TV on when I'm out β background noise helps. Would have saved me weeks of stress.
My vet in Kitchener suggested removing mirrors from the cage β can cause hormonal or aggressive behavior and I noticed a change within the first week. Highly recommend.
