TIL about Pionus lifespan and I'm shook
I knew parrots lived long but I just looked up actual documented lifespans and some umbrella cockatoo have lived over 40 years in captivity. My Poppy could outlive me. Has anyone here actually thought about a plan for their bird if something happens to them? This just got real.
Following up on my earlier comment β I tried what you suggested and it actually worked! My lovebird is doing so much better. Thank you!
Great question! So in my experience with Pionus, this usually comes down to a few things. First, putting a bird lamp on a 12/12 timer to simulate natural daylight cycles. Second, make sure they're getting enough sleep β 12 hours of uninterrupted dark sleep is crucial. And third, pay attention to the cage being in a high-traffic or drafty location because that was a huge factor for my Noodle. Hope that helps!
So what I ended up doing was getting natural java wood perches from a specialty bird store. Within a few days there was a noticeable improvement. Definitely worth trying.
I could have written this post a year ago. Same situation, same frustration. Here's what I wish someone had told me: target training first, then building up to step-up. Would have saved me weeks of stress.
One thing that really helped was leaving the radio or TV on when I'm out β background noise helps. Give it a try β can't hurt!
BST in Mississauga took such good care of my bird. Best bird sitting service in the GTA by far.
How old is your bird? That might explain it β my Pionus went through something similar around 5 years.
