Hi everyone! I recently adopted a rescue Senegal parrot from a shelter near Vaughan. Their name is Charlie (the shelter named them but it stuck). They're a bit shy and don't trust easily — no idea what their previous situation was. I want to give them the absolute best life possible. Any tips for helping a rescue bird settle in and learn to trust again?

Welcome! I remember being a new bird owner and this kind of community helped SO much. Excited to have you!

Nice to meet you! Always great to connect with fellow bird owners. You're going to fit right in here!

I went through this exact thing with my sun conure Peaches! It lasted about a few days and then resolved on its own. Hang in there.

This happened to us last winter. I think the shorter days and dry heated air were the cause for my bird.

If you're in Etobicoke, check out the avian vet on Hurontario St. They're amazing with Hahn's macaw specifically.

My Mango went through a phase like this around 1 year. I was terrified but it passed. Birds are weird sometimes lol.
