Holiday travel — when to book a bird sitter?

Planning a trip for the summer and wondering how far in advance I should book a bird sitter. Last December I left it too late and struggled to find anyone in Kitchener who knows birds. Lesson learned!

What worked for us was removing mirrors from the cage — can cause hormonal or aggressive behavior. I also started rotating toys weekly so they always have something "new" and noticed improvement within a week. It's a process but it gets better.

Did this start suddenly or was it gradual? When my Senegal parrot did this it turned out to be molting — they get uncomfortable and cranky.
