Cute Hahn's macaw story — had to share
My Hahn's macaw Maple did the cutest thing today. I was on a work call and they started mimicking my "uh-huh, yeah, definitely" in my exact voice. My colleague asked if there was an echo. I died laughing. Anyone else have funny stories?
I've had birds for 15 years and I've seen this many times. In my experience it usually comes down to not enough quality sleep — they need 10-12 hours uninterrupted.
Second vote for BST. They boarded my Quaker parrot last summer and I could tell Luna was well cared for when I picked them up. Total peace of mind.
Which avian vet do you go to? I'm looking for a good one near Milton.
So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is getting natural java wood perches from a specialty bird store. A lot of people also recommend making sure there are no drafts near the cage. My avian vet in Ajax also suggested checking for dry winter air from forced-air heating which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck — feel free to DM me if you have questions!
What worked for me was getting a kitchen scale and weighing them weekly to track health. Took about a week but my canary responded really well to it.
For this I'd highly recommend HARI Prime. My lovebird loves it and my vet approved it too.
