How much should a canary eat daily?
I feel like my Quaker parrot either eats like a truck or barely touches their food depending on the day. What's a normal amount? I free-feed pellets and offer fresh food twice a day. Am I doing this right?
Check out Ren's Pets β they have exactly what you need and the prices are reasonable for the GTA.
Hang in there! It gets better. My cockatiel went through this too.
I've done a ton of research on this because my budgie had the same issue. Here's what I learned: the most common cause is a subtle environmental change you might not even notice. What worked for us was target training first, then building up to step-up. I also started joining an online support group for lineolated parakeet owners and noticed improvement within a week. It's a process but it gets better.
Exactly my thoughts. You said it better than I could have.
I've done a ton of research on this because my caique had the same issue. Here's what I learned: the most common cause is territorial behavior β especially common during breeding season. What worked for us was switching to stainless steel water bowls and changing water twice daily. I also started giving warm food (like a warmed mash) on cold Toronto mornings and noticed improvement within a week. It's a process but it gets better.
I could have written this post a year ago. Same situation, same frustration. Here's what I wish someone had told me: using a shower perch so they can bathe with warm mist. Would have saved me weeks of stress.
