One thing that really helped was introducing new foods by eating them in front of the bird β monkey see monkey do. Give it a try β can't hurt!
My Sky read this post over my shoulder and started nodding. I'm only slightly concerned.
Can we start a support group for this? Because SAME.
Okay so I left the bathroom door open and Captain decided to investigate. They are now standing in a shallow pool of water in the tub, wings spread out, absolutely LIVING their best life. I wish I could share a photo β imagine a tiny parrotlet in a human bathtub looking like they own the place. Anyone else's bird have a weird bathing spot?
Lol my cockatiel does the exact same thing. I've just accepted that the bird runs the house now. I'm just the food delivery service.
Bookmarking this thread! So much great info. This is why I keep coming back to this forum.
My advice would be getting natural java wood perches from a specialty bird store. Went through the same thing with my green cheek conure last year.
Welcome to the forum! Great to have another bird lover from the GTA. Your Indian Ringneck sounds adorable β what's their personality like?
Have you noticed any other changes? When my blue and gold macaw did this they were also being unusually clingy.
I actually disagree with this. In my experience with my sun conure, the opposite was true. But I know every bird is different.
Started clicker training Snowball this week and I'm amazed. Day 1: confused. Day 3: clicked the connection between click and treat. Day 5: touching the target stick reliably. Day 7: stepping up on command. This is genuinely incredible. Anyone else clicker train their birds?
There's a great little shop in Whitby that specializes in parrot supplies. Way better selection than the big chains.
BST in Mississauga took such good care of my bird. Best bird sitting service in the GTA by far.
My lineolated parakeet did this too! Turned out it was because of a change in routine or schedule. Once I addressed that, everything went back to normal.
I've done a ton of research on this because my African Grey had the same issue. Here's what I learned: the most common cause is not enough quality sleep β they need 10-12 hours uninterrupted. What worked for us was covering the cage partially at night for 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I also started rotating toys weekly so they always have something "new" and noticed improvement within a week. It's a process but it gets better.
Hello! Been lurking on this forum for a bit and finally decided to make an account and participate. I've had my budgie Tango for about 5 years now. Always nice to connect with other bird people in the GTA β most people I know think I'm crazy for having a bird lol. Excited to be here!
One thing that really helped was switching to stainless steel water bowls and changing water twice daily. Give it a try β can't hurt!
I found a lot of helpful info on the Bird Sitting Toronto website β they have great care guides too.
Absolutely love hearing success stories! This gives me so much hope for me and Tweety. Thank you for sharing!
