Rescued a umbrella cockatoo — need all the advice I can get!
Hi everyone! I recently adopted a rescue Indian Ringneck from a shelter near Kitchener. Their name is Coco (the shelter named them but it stuck). They're a bit shy and don't trust easily — no idea what their previous situation was. I want to give them the absolute best life possible. Any tips for helping a rescue bird settle in and learn to trust again?
Welcome! I remember being a new bird owner and this kind of community helped SO much. Excited to have you!
Welcome!! Looking forward to hearing more about your feathered friend. Don't be shy about asking questions!
Following up on my earlier comment — I tried what you suggested and it actually worked! My caique is doing so much better. Thank you!
Anyone near Aurora should check out the bird section at a local bird shop — surprisingly good for the area.
Okay but counterpoint — what about birds that are the complete opposite? My blue and gold macaw breaks every rule lol.
Check out Amazon Canada — they have exactly what you need and the prices are reasonable for the GTA.
My Amazon parrot did this too! Turned out it was because of boredom from lack of enrichment and mental stimulation. Once I addressed that, everything went back to normal.
