Just joined! I have a beautiful Indian Ringneck named Captain and we live in Kitchener. I spend way too much time talking to my bird and taking photos of them. Looking to learn more about bird care, nutrition, and training from people who actually know what they're talking about. Nice to meet you all!

Welcome to the forum! Great to have another bird lover from the GTA. Your Pionus sounds adorable β€” what's their personality like?

Your bird is in good hands. The fact that you're researching this shows how much you care.

So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is switching to stainless steel water bowls and changing water twice daily. A lot of people also recommend joining an online support group for Senegal parrot owners. My avian vet in Roncesvalles also suggested checking for the cage being in a high-traffic or drafty location which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck β€” feel free to DM me if you have questions!

How long have you had them? Sometimes it takes a while for birds to settle into a new home.

Been thinking about this thread all week. I've tried a few of the suggestions and getting natural java wood perches from a specialty bird store was the game changer for us.

So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is adding a full-spectrum Arcadia UV light near the cage. A lot of people also recommend joining an online support group for green cheek conure owners. My avian vet in Aurora also suggested checking for a dietary deficiency, especially calcium or vitamin A which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck β€” feel free to DM me if you have questions!

I've had birds for 15 years and I've seen this many times. In my experience it usually comes down to dry winter air from forced-air heating.
