Nail trimming at home — tips?

My African Grey needs a nail trim but last time I took them to the vet it was so stressful for both of us. Anyone successfully trim nails at home? What technique do you use? I'm nervous about hitting the quick.

My vet in Vaughan suggested using a stainless steel cage with proper bar spacing for the species and I noticed a change within the first week. Highly recommend.

This reminds me of when I first got Peaches. I was so overwhelmed but looking back, those early days were actually really special. The bond building phase is tough but beautiful.

Reading this hit home. My budgie went through the same phase around the same age. What helped us was introducing new foods by eating them in front of the bird — monkey see monkey do. Also just accepting that birds are gonna bird, you know?
