Are green cheek conures good for apartment living?
I'm in a downtown Toronto condo with fairly thin walls. I've fallen in love with green cheek conures but I'm terrified of noise complaints. Are GCCs actually apartment-friendly or is that wishful thinking?
As the guy with the LOUD sun conure — yes, get the green cheek for a condo, not a sun. GCCs have a 'chuckle' more than a scream. Mine's cousin has a GCC in an apartment with zero complaints.
Green cheeks are genuinely one of the better apartment parrots. They're playful and a bit chatty but nowhere near sun conure / aratinga volume. You'll be fine with considerate neighbours.
Green cheeks are a great condo choice! They're among the quietest of the conures — expressive and busy, but their contact calls are short and relatively low-volume compared to sun or jenday conures.
For apartment success: give them lots of foraging/out-of-cage time (a bored conure is a loud conure), and avoid leaving them alone for very long stretches. Pineapple and turquoise mutations are the same volume as normal green cheeks — colour doesn't affect noise.
