Do Pionus need a friend?

I have a single African Grey and I'm home most of the day but I still feel guilty when I need to leave. Do they get lonely? Would getting a second bird help or just cause drama?

A friend who's had birds for 20 years told me to try introducing new foods by eating them in front of the bird — monkey see monkey do. I was skeptical but it actually worked.
