Night frights — how to prevent them

My blue and gold macaw has been having night frights almost every other night. I wake up to them thrashing in the cage and feathers everywhere. I'm terrified they'll get hurt. What causes this and how do I stop it?

I actually disagree with this. In my experience with my green cheek conure, the opposite was true. But I know every bird is different.

My vet in Newmarket suggested adding a full-spectrum Arcadia UV light near the cage and I noticed a change within the first week. Highly recommend.
