My green cheek conure flew out the door — High Park area, help!
Posting in a panic — my friend's green cheek conure bolted out an open door near High Park this morning. He's microchipped but not banded. What do we do RIGHT NOW to maximize the chance of getting him back?
Act fast: get his cage OUTSIDE where he flew off, with his favourite food and a flockmate if he has one — birds often return to a familiar cage/sound. Play recordings of his own calls. Search at dawn/dusk when he'll call out. And post EVERYWHERE immediately.
I'm so sorry — try to stay calm, because lost tame parrots are recovered all the time, especially in the first 24–48 hours. Do these now:
- Put his cage outside in the area he flew from, with favourite food visible (and a bonded mate if he has one). Familiar cage + flock calls draw them back.
- Listen and search at dawn and dusk — that's when he'll vocalize most. Play recordings of his own calls.
- Post immediately and widely: Kijiji, Toronto Lost and Found Pets (Facebook), Nextdoor, PawBoost — and list him on our Lost & Found Birds portal, which is built specifically to reunite birds across the GTA.
- Call nearby vets, shelters, and the Toronto Wildlife Centre — finders contact them first.
