Nail trimming at home — tips?
My canary needs a nail trim but last time I took them to the vet it was so stressful for both of us. Anyone successfully trim nails at home? What technique do you use? I'm nervous about hitting the quick.
Trimming a canary's tiny nails at home is definitely doable with the right setup, and you're smart to want to avoid repeated vet stress for something routine.
For small birds like canaries, skip the big pet nail clippers—use baby nail scissors or human nail clippers instead. Wrap your canary gently in a soft towel (the "burrito" method), exposing just one foot at a time. Work in bright natural light, or shine
Which avian vet do you go to? I'm looking for a good one near the Beaches.
I showed this post to my bird and they looked at me with zero remorse. They know what they're doing.
