TIL parrots have the intelligence of a 3-5 year old human
Read a study today comparing parrot cognition to human development. Apparently species like African Greys and Amazons can match the cognitive abilities of a 3-5 year old child. My Senegal parrot Fig definitely has the emotional maturity of a toddler too β including the tantrums.
Dealt with this for months. What finally worked was changing their sleep schedule and just being really patient. They come around eventually.
I struggled with this too until I started introducing new foods by eating them in front of the bird β monkey see monkey do. Now it's like a completely different bird.
This is one of those topics where I think there genuinely is no right answer. Both sides have valid points.
I used to think the same thing until my caique proved me wrong. Now I'm firmly in the other camp.
